Leather or fabric?
Choose leather
if you want easy wipe-clean care, a surface that does not trap pet hair or dust, and a piece that ages into a patina rather than wearing out. Protected leather is the most stain-resistant.
Choose fabric
if you want a warmer, softer feel from day one and the widest range of colours and textures. Tight weaves and performance fabrics stand up best to daily use; linen, velvet and bouclé suit lighter use.

Hides, matched by hand
Leather
On Blankspace Italia pieces, full-grain and protected leathers, selected hide by hand and matched across cushions. On Blankspace Editions pieces, protected leather, chosen to resist spills and wear in family homes.
Care
- Dust weekly with a dry microfiber cloth, and vacuum seams with a soft brush.
- Keep it a couple of feet from radiators, fireplaces and heating vents, and out of strong direct sun.
- Blot spills straight away with a dry, absorbent cloth: blot, do not rub.
- Clean and condition clean, dry leather typically every 6 to 12 months.
- Never use bleach, ammonia, solvents, baby wipes, furniture polish or a steam cleaner.
Weaves, cut to the curve
Fabric
On Blankspace Italia pieces, natural and performance fabrics, cut and sewn to the curve of the piece by hand. On Blankspace Editions pieces, performance fabric that cleans easily, made for children, pets and long evenings.
Care
- Vacuum weekly with an upholstery attachment, along seams and under loose cushions.
- Plump and rotate cushions so wear and fading spread evenly.
- Blot spills the moment they happen with a clean, dry, white cloth, working from the outside in.
- Read the cleaning code on the tag before any wet cleaning, and spot test in a hidden area first.
-
Bouclé
Latte Bouclé
A looped yarn with a nubby, cloud-like texture. It hides minor soiling well and is wonderfully tactile, but loops can snag on claws, jewelry and zippers and can be harder to spot-clean.
-
Velvet
Argilla Velvet
A short, dense pile with deep colour and sheen. Velvet shows pressure marks and pile direction, which many people consider part of its charm. Brush it gently in the direction of the pile after vacuuming.
-
Linen
Salvia Linen
Cool, crisp and relaxed-looking, with a natural slubbed texture. Linen wrinkles readily, is more prone to fading in sun than many synthetics, and can shrink or water-mark if wet-cleaned.
Finished by hand
Wood
Seasoned hardwood, finished by hand in the atelier.
